Lately, it has been discovered that many people in Singapore, consume more electricity than they would. Some argue that it’s their right to use their electricity the way they want; yes, but it’s not a good idea to pay more for electricity when you can minimize it and save the extra cash for something else. If you’re not sure how this could be possible, read on, and learn from experts…
Before sharing the utmost tricks on saving energy in Singapore, it’s better to mention the following as a curtain raiser. That, the two main ways of saving energy are; using good appliances and managing your habits. This means that energy saving can be habitual or by the use of regulated appliances
It’s a reward to know which, among your appliances consumes more energy. In a home, the appliances that are known to suck energy more are refrigerators, air conditioners, clothes dryers, water heaters and the likes. If you have one, you need to train yourself to use them, during the needful times. Otherwise, when you aren’t around, you can choose to put them off. A challenge comes in when you’re using those appliances that need to be in power always to work properly.
Simple habits such as regularly cleaning and keeping your air conditioners working can turn out to be more rewarding in the conservation of energy. Some faulty air conditioners or electric appliances can consume more energy. To save yourself from this agony, you need to ensure they are well serviced at least every other week.
The below six tips can help you to reduce the electricity bill:
- Install only LED Lights
This is one of the best tips I can give if you’re moving to a new house and no lights have been installed yet. Not only it save energy & the life span for LED is much more longer than normal light & the heat transfer into room temperature will also be lower.
- Invest on 5-star energy rating inverter air-conditioners
In a tropical and humid climate like Singapore, you’ll need at least one unit of the air-conditioner installed in your home. Although inverter air-conditioners are costlier than conventional air-conditioners, in the long run you’ll be able to save thousands of Dollars.
- Set room temperature 25°C & above
Set air conditioner temperature to 25°C not only save on your bill & the air conditioner will last longer. If you always on your air-conditioner below 20°C it will need to work extremely hard to reach this temperature. Thus it will reduce its lifespan.
- Install solar-powered water heater
Hot water shower is great to have but most people would opt for the instant water heater. Although they don’t cost a lot they consume a lot of energy.
- Use the stove to heat water for drinking
Although electric kettle is convenient, they consume quite a lot of power. Heating water using gas is more cost effective. However, if you don’t have a choice, heat up only the amount of water you need to use.
- Unplugged all sockets
Turn off the lights and switches when you’re not using them are just not enough to help you save on your bill, you have to unplug the socket due to it will still transmit electricity if only switch off.
